Jesus Christ provided our purpose when He declared to the disciples:
"...Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved;..." (Mark 16:15-16 GNT)
Connecting our community with Jesus is our hope and purpose.
The Bible is the infallible Word of God and the authority for Salvation and Christian living (II Timothy 3:15-17).
There is one God, who has revealed Himself as our Father, in His Son Jesus Christ and as the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. He is both God and man (Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6, Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16).
Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:-23-25; Ephesians 2:8-9).
The saving gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again. We obey the gospel by repentance (death to sin), water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (burial) and by receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (resurrection) (I Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39; Romans 6:4).
As Christians we are to love God and others. We should live a holy life inwardly, outwardly and worship God joyfully. The supernatural gifts of the Spirit, including healing, are for the church (Mark 12:28-31; II Corinthians 7:1; Hebrews 12:14; I Corinthians 12:8-10).
Jesus Christ is coming again to catch away His church. In the end will be a final resurrection and judgment. The righteous will inherit eternal life and the unrighteous eternal death (I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15).
The Apostolic Tabernacle of Owosso had its first service at the Union Hall on Saginaw St in early 1954 under the leadership of Rev. Douglas Stevens. In those days, the union hall was used on Saturday nights as a dance hall, therefore church members would get there early on Sunday to sweep the place up, place out chairs and pull in a watering trough for baptisms.
The church quickly outgrew the union hall and moved to 111 S Washington St. Rev. Stevens continued leading the church until spring of 1957, when Rev. Harold Ruff assumed the responsibilities and became the pastor.
The church, under Rev. Ruff, purchased a piece of land on the corner of North and Hickory streets in March of 1958, where the members began constructing a basement church which held services for the next 7 years. In 1965, we held a dedication service when the upper floor structure was completed. Years later, we would add on the fellowship hall, completing the building as you see today.
In the fall of 1968, Rev. Harold Roberts assumed the pastorate. In January of 1975, we submitted an amendment to the State of Michigan to officially change the name to United Pentecostal Church of Owosso. In 1981 Rev. Joe Williams stepped into the role and served as pastor for the next 10 years. In the spring of 1991, Rev. Ron Hall came to Owosso to be the pastor, serving in his role until February 2010.
Fall of 2010, Rev. Joey McKinnies was voted in as pastor. Rev. McKinnies has been working diligently to upgrade the building while reaching for souls in the community and surrounding areas. In 2024, the United Pentecostal Church of Owosso will have been serving Jesus Christ in the community for 70 years.
We fully believe He has more in store for Shiawassee county and encourage you to be a part of His Kingdom work, by making the United Pentecostal Church of Owosso your home.
